iOS 5 release time zones (Update): Now Live

By: Daniel Chubb | October 12, 2011
Hitting the “check for update” button in iTunes 10.5 and waiting for the iOS 5 release time, which leaves you with a message that the download is still stuck on 4.3.5 is not fun, well let us help you feel a little less frustrated so you can go and relax and come back when the iOS 5 download will be live.
We know, like most people who’ve had every generation of iPhone, that the release time is likely to be 10am PST, which works out at 6pm in London, UK. When you look at all the updates over the years you’ll see that they’ve pretty much come out in a 30 minute window, which included minor updates like iOS 4.2 and 4.3, also more major updates like the iPhone 3rd generation firmware and iOS 4. When checking for an update in iTunes you’ll not find the update, at the time of writing, although going to the official Apple website has the download listed as version 10.5. READ THE FULL ARTICLE: ProductReviews

iPhone 4S, Siri and today’s Apple event – EVERYTHING you need to know in a handy list.

Tuesday October 4, 2011,

It’s been months in the making, and today we finally have confirmation from Apple, as well as a few squashed rumors. Apple has released the iPhone 4S today, as well as iOS 5 and the addition of Sprint in the company’s lineup of US carriers.
Funny enough, we got confirmation of the 4S name via Apple’s own Japanese store site, less than an hour before launch. Most of these rumors were nailed down prior to today’s event, but it’s good to finally get completely confirmation. That said, here’s a rundown of everything that happened today, plus links to our coverage for the specifics.

The Business of Apple

CEO Tim Cook opened, taking the stage with the obvious statement of “this is my first prouct launch since being named CEO”. The event is being held in what Apple calls the Town Hall. It is the place where the original iPod was launched, 10 years ago.
“Today we’ll remind you of the uniqueness of this company as we announce innovations from our mobile OS, to applications, to services, to hardware, and more importantly the integration of all these into a powerful, simple, integrated experience.”
Cook goes on to talk about the “enormous momentum of Apple, specifically the retail stores. Cook then highlights the year to date for Apple: READ THE FULL ARTICLE: TheNextWeb

Hopefully next week we will see the launch of the next version of the iPhone, and it should also mean that the new operating system will also be made available. When iOS 5 is launched it will be made available for a variety of Apple’s mobile products, so today we are looking at preparing for the iPhone 5 and iOS 5 release.
iOS 5 will be released anytime soon and Jason Parker of Cnet has written an article about getting your device ready for the update. This will be the perfect time to erase all the rubbish that doesn’t get used anymore, like unused applications or music. You will then be able to easily reorganize all your home screens. READ THE FULL ARTICLE: ProductReviews

Merely predictions for new iPhone / iOS 5 event

By: Chris Maugham | September 28, 2011

Yesterday marked the announcement for the ‘Let’s Talk iPhone’ event, which has been scheduled by Apple for October 4th. It is an event that has been highly anticipated, which will see the iOS 5 and the even more anticipated iPhone 5 discussed. It is also thought to be where the company will in fact unveil the release date of the iPhone 5. Or are we getting ahead of ourselves?
There’s nothing so far that says there will definitely be an exact date given, in fact the only thing we really know for certain is the fact that the iPhone 5 will be released, at some point. Anything else is merely predictions. The event doesn’t even specifically mention the iPhone 5 either, as Mashable explains; it simply promises there’ll be talks about the iPhone. We quite often hear reports of new ideas and technology that Apple may be looking into for their various hardware products. Today is no different as there are now reports Apple could release iOS devices that feature curved glass in 2012.

Sprint, AT&T and Verizon get iPhone iOS 5 in 2 days

By: Peter Chubb | September 21, 2011

There are now just two days to go until Sprint, AT&T and Verizon get iOS 5, and as there has to be carrier approval by October 5, 2011, it’s yet more evidence that the iPhone 5 will be with us very soon. That date mentioned above seems to fit in nicely with our most recent report on the unveiling of Apple’s latest smartphone.
Once carriers agree they will then be given time to test the Gold Master version of iOS 5, so will only give them a few weeks to iron out any issues that may be found. One would not expect their to be many issues, but you never know what happens – especially as Sprint has never tested iOS before. Having said that, as this is a new version the likes of AT&T and Big Red could also run into one or two teething problems. READ THE FULL ARTICLE: ProductReviews

Verizon thinks optimal ahead of iPhone 5 release date

By: Daniel Chubb | September 17, 2011

Over the last few days a stream of Apple rumors have flowed from a range of sources, with many of them claiming insider information, which includes an apparent release of iOS 5 around a week before the iPhone 5 release date. Obviously both of these dates are currently unknown, although this doesn’t stop speculation with a timeframe of within the next month.
We’re pretty certain that Sprint is going to get the iPhone 5, although it looks like they may get thefourth generation first. Most tech enthusiasts expect a design change on the iPhone 5, which could include a more rounded edge, although those who have a 15-month-old iPhone will not welcome delays thanks to production issues.
